Observing Lent in Oliver Hall
Why does Saint Mary's participate in Meatless Fridays during Lent?
As a Lasallian Catholic Institution in the context of the United States of America, it is tradition to abstain from eating meat during the Lenten season on Ash Wednesday and on Fridays.
In the US, meat is greatly integrated into our diets as the "main source of protein." It is readily available to us and is not the only source of protein. As an act of love and penance, we are encouraged to go without meat to see where God is working in us and see a reflection of the sacrifice Jesus made.
During the Lenten season we encourage you to consider: Where are you finding the divine/the good working in you?
Oliver Hall will not be serving meat on these dates:

Oliver Hall
Oliver Hall is the main dining hall available to students and offers a variety of food options. GEC focuses on delicious, nourishing food, whole-food ingredients, and satisfying flavors that will help make healthier choices second nature. We highly encourage you to play with your food and enjoy the goodness sharing a meal can bring to enrich our lives and keep us Healthy & Happy. Additionally, Oliver Hall has the "Clean Plates" station where residents can enjoy safe and appetizing food choices for our guests with food allergies, gluten intolerance, or for those who prefer simply prepared foods.
Cafe Louis - Coffee Shop
Make it a GOOD day with farm-to-cup espresso and coffee by Heirloom Coffee Roasters, or grab a made-to-order smoothie with an adaptogen boost. Hungry now? Stop in and enjoy your favorites, ready in minutes to fuel your busy day. Our organic, sustainable, and responsibly sourced grab-and-go solution is available any time, with an array of breakfast items, sandwiches, salads, bowls, snacks, and more. The Coffee Shop also carries select pantry staples and other necessities students are looking for. The Coffee Shop accepts cash/card, flex dollars, and a "swipe" as part of the CAMPUSFUEL program.
The 1928 Pub
Enjoy some wine, beer, and other mixed drinks for those over 21 years old. The Pub also offers a select menu of food and snack options such as chips & salsa, chicken tenders, sandwiches, and more! The Pub can also be used for events outside of their normal operating hours. Those who are under 21 are welcome for soft drinks, mocktails, and all food options in the Pub. The Pub currently accepts cash/card, flex dollars, and soon will be a participating location for CAMPUSFUEL.
Forager Food Truck
Good Eating Company has started a food truck that runs multiple days each week primarily during lunch time on campus. The food truck has a rotating menu, and currently accepts cash/card, as well as flex dollars.
Grubhub
Students can use board points/flex points to purchase food at off-campus restaurants by connecting their SMC ID card to their free grubhub account. Throughout the year there will also be additional benefits and promotions available to students who link to their Grubhub (unlimted free delivery!).
Off campus locations in Moraga such as Mountain Mike's Pizza, Loard's Ice Cream, and Pennini's also directly accept board points/flex dollars.
Board points come with meal plans, flex points are manually added (and can be added here!)
